Roseanne's Summer Vacation- Chapter 44
Mr Orville and the students strolled back to the hotel. It was just five minutes away from the Southern Pier, but the walk took them a good hour. They were battered and scraped all around. Water was relentlessly dripping from Roseanne, Natasha, and Mr Orville as they were soaked to the bone.
The hotel welcomed the party with its orange neon sign. The receptionist attacked by Tae-jun had ended her shift and was replaced by another one. It’s unclear whether she reported the assault or not, but the cognitively-challenged law enforcement didn’t connect the students and their teacher to a series of strange events that night.
They waited for the elevator and only dreamt of hitting the sack.
“Jeez, so that’s how action heroes feel like when the end credits roll,” Thally commented, massaging her sore elbows.
“How come you are dressed up like that?” Mr Orville pointed at her extravagant cop outfit.
“Well, we needed the gumball lights.” She raised her shoulders to present them. “Only a Halloween costume in a clothes shop had these.”
“You look like a fever dream of an otaku,” Nika remarked. “It’s best to change clothes.”
“Like I wouldn’t know. We all need to change clothes and disinfect our wounds. They’re going to hurt like hell tomorrow.”
The person whose injuries already hurt like hell was Roseanne. After all, she jumped out of the falling helicopter. It’s a miracle she made it in one piece, and none of her wounds were life-threatening. She was concerned about the state of Mr Orville, but the teacher assured her he’s okay, even though he could barely stand on one foot. And when he expressed worry about her well-being, the student simply said she’s fine, too.
“Oh…” Thally became moved by this exchange. She recited from memory, “I’ll be reachin for the light, I’ll be wearin out the night, and you know I’ll be alright, I’ll be holdin on,”
“What is it?” Nika asked.
“It’s a song from a buddy cop flick.”
“Please!” Natasha protested. “Enough with the movie references! It’s beyond annoying!”
