Movies I watched over the weekend (11-12 October 2025)
When I was a teenager, watching movies and TV shows almost on a daily basis was my passion. However, because of work, I find it increasingly hard to do so as an adult. A movie per week is a blessing.
And even then, I have to carefully think about what to watch. I mean, I think really hard before the weekend what movie to watch, because if I sit down in front of my movie collection or a streaming service without any pre-selected title, I don't know what to play.
I'm not sure if this is going to be a regular series of posts, but still, I am throwing it out there.
This weekend, I managed to watch three movies. Coincidentally, all of them were about 90 minutes long, so the watch time wasn't that consuming, and I didn't feel that tired after Friday, so here are my quick thoughts:
Tron (1982)
I watched it because there's this new flick Tron Ares in cinemas now. I was aware of Tron Legacy back when it premiered in 2010, but I had zero interest in this franchise. So I watched the first film and it was an interesting, quite heartwarming fairy tale about the world inside of a computer, at least a romantic child-like interpretation of this concept. It was nice, but I don't feel motivated to check out the remaining sequels.
Watched on Disney Plus.
Spaceballs (1987)
This is actually a memberberry from my childhood. I love Mel Brooks' comedies, and I think this is the first one of his I have ever seen. Obviously, it's a Star Wars parody, but done in a very tasteful manner. I will never get tired of "the ludicrous speed" chase, combing the desert, and the self-destruct sequence. Having revisited this classic, I kind of don't want Amazon to make a sequel to it(?) I just don't want them to ruin it.
Watched on DVD.
Steve (2025)
As soon as it was announced, I marked the date in the calendar and waited for the premiere. I watched this movie only for Cillian Murphy. To be honest, I feel kind of disappointed by the story, because it's done in a very modernist, invading-all-senses type of way. In addition, I think performance-wise Cillian had done a much better job in last year's Small Things Like These. If you want to see a better film about a caretaker looking after dysfunctional people, then I recommend The Boys Next Door from 1996.
Watched on Netflix.
