Movies I watched over the weekend (18-19 October 2025)
Welcome to the second post of this still-not-a-series called "Movies I watched over the weekend", in which I share brief thoughts on the stuff I checked out. Here we go:
Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992)
This movie literally screams childhood nostalgia to me because I remember watching it on VHS from a rental store. I think this was, in fact, the very first Invisible Man movie I have ever seen, and I got fascinated by this concept. To be honest, this movie did not age well, and I do not mean the special effects (these are still outstanding), but Chevy Chase's serious performance as an ordinary guy on the run from government agents.
The movie is decent, but it could have been better with a different lead. However, it's nice to see Daryl Hannah as a kind-hearted lady who aids the hero and Sam Neill as a villainous FBI agent. Oh, Sam! You could have made an outstanding baddie in a Batman or Bond flick! But you entered the pop-cultural hall of fame as Dr. Alan Grant.
Watched on CDA.
Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning (2025)
I saw this movie at the cinema back in late May this year, but I actually got a free DVD of it this week, so I rewatched it. The Final Reckoning is a nice conclusion to the action-packed movie series, but it's not the best of the bunch. However, it's not the weakest one either. I like the nice call-backs to previous entries and fast-paced sequences, but the general premise of Ethan Hunt trying to get control over rogue AI (not Skynet) feels a bit tired. I think Dead Reckoning and The Final Reckoning should have been completely separate adventures rather than a two-parter story.
Watched on DVD.
