Roseanne's Summer Vacation- Chapter 47
The girls, together with Mr Orville, walked back and forth on the promenade to take a last glance at the sea and do last-minute shopping. Milena thankfully found the sea salt for her mom. Nika, on the other hand, filled her bag with packets of tobacco, much to the dismay of Mr Orville.
“I know I should quit, sir,” Nika said. “But I’m gonna do it the day after tomorrow.”
Apart from tents with toys and souvenirs by the shoreline, there were also special spots that sold books. Allegedly, some kind of book festival was due to be held at the promenade. Roseanne and Thally scoured the tents in search of any novel that would catch their interest, but they found junk forgotten by time: travel journals, self-help guides, and biographies of celebs nobody cared about.
“Do you have anything by Anna Dalgliesh?’ Roseanne asked one of the sellers.
“And who is that, lady?” The seller had no idea such an author existed.
“She perfectly blends romance and crime. I love her books.”
“Hey, you read Anna Dalgliesh, too?” Tally couldn’t believe that she met a fellow fan. “She’s amazing.”
“I know, right?!” Roseanne gasped. “Let Me Cry was outstanding! I heard she recently published a sequel called Rear-view Teardrops, but it’s super expensive.”
“No kidding! I didn’t know there was a sequel. I hope she finishes the arc of the mysterious Driver X from Daytona.”
“Anna Dalgliesh is despicable,” Milena said. “Mr Orville! Mr Orville! Please recommend a book.”
The teacher turned to the girl in glasses and said, “The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Milena. I’m afraid that if I recommend something, I will let you down. You need to discover what you like on your own.”
“Oh, come on! What should I read?”
“Try the classics,” Natasha passed her a book from a pile.
“Arthur Conan Doyle?” Milena read the name on the cover. “Who is he?”

Having packed their luggage, the group vacated the hotel rooms and journeyed to the train station. Luckily, the security staff did not recognise Roseanne, because she wasn’t wearing her military uniform.
The return train arrived on time, but Mr Orville had to pay an additional fee for Nika’s ticket, because she didn’t have her school ID. Only 100 Po credits remained in the envelope, and he divided the amount equally among the five students. Each and every one was pleased. The IC Baltic Express reached Bydgoszcz after a little over two hours.
“You are not getting off, Mr Orville?” Natasha asked.
“I’ve got one more stop because I’m heading to Squidburb.”
“Ah, okay. Thanks for the trip.”
The remaining students said their thanks and goodbyes to the teacher as they disembarked the train. On the platform, Hannah Malinowski was already waiting for Thally and Milena. Nika headed for the tram stop. Natasha prepared the car keys for her Honda.
Roseanne was the last one to leave.
“Thank you very much, Mr Orville,” she said to the teacher by the carriage door. “I wouldn’t like to survive such an ordeal ever again, but I thank you for the motivation and kind words.”
“Thank you for saving my skin again, Roseanne.”
“My pleasure. After all, I acted in my best interest. English classes would be boring with a substitute teacher,” she winked. “Have a nice day!”
“The same to you!”
She stepped onto the platform and waved as the train began departing. The teacher waved back.
“See you in September!” she shouted.
